Hi, and welcome to Coach's Corner! I'm Dr. John Beiter, Executive Coach and Psychologist. This weeks lesson is habit #3 from Stephen Covey's book "7 Habits of Highly Effective People". Habit #3 is "Put First Things First".
Probably the simplest way to remember this is when you were a kid and your parents would tell to make sure you get your work done before you go play. That's kind of the essence of "Put First Things First"; getting the things I need to do done first before doing the things I want to do. And also, while I'm doing those things is to stay focused. Don't get distracted, don't procrastinate, and don't put it off. Get it done!
Putting first things first! You can put first things first and you're gonna have what Covey refers to as a private victory. This is the 3rd of the private victories. The first was "be proactive", the second one was "begin with the end in mind," and now habit #3 "put first things first". When you master these three habits, you've become a fully independent person and you're ready to step into the next phase which I'll discuss next week.
