Well, we've come to the end of the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People"! Today we talk about Habit #7; Sharpen the saw. Covey said that this was the habit that encompassed all the other six together. This keeps them all going!
What he was referring to is how well we take care of ourselves; mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically. The suggestions here are, for highly effective people, they get plenty of exercise, they get plenty of rest, they eat really well, they spend time with community, they spend time with friends, they take the time to learn something new. I"m a big proponent of learning something new, I love to read! So for me, any chance that I get to read something new is always kind of fun. Whether I'm eating at the counter or if I'm driving I have an Audible account so I can have a book read to me. So that's one way that I do that. But there are lots of ways to challenge yourself in order to get this habit accomplished and to become a master at it. So sharpen the saw is really about taking care of yourself and it's really about bringing balance into your life. You don't want to be off kilter on any one of those areas. So spending your time and finding ways to make sure that you take care of yourself.
I've really enjoyed this series and I hope you have too!I hope you've learned something from it that you can apply. One of the things that I think is really difficult is that we learn a whole lot of different things, we learn about a lot of different things, but rarely do we learn from them. My challenge, and my hope for you, is that you've learned a lot from this series that you're able to apply and make a real difference to your life. I guarantee if you follow those seven habits you will be successful. Thanks for spending your time with me.
